Fenerbahce warned against making Andre Ayew stay permanent

Fenerbahce legend, Ridvan Dilmen has cautioned the club’s top hierarchy against triggering Andre Ayew’s option-to-buy clause at the end of the season.

The Ghanaian forward joined the Turkish club at the start of the season on loan from Swansea City with the Yellow-Navy Blues securing the option of making the deal permanent for €12 million.

Fenerbahce President Ali Koc last month lauded Ayew’s leadership qualities and expressed the club’s interest to trigger the future fee clause in the player’s contract.

However Dilmen, who spent seven years at the club between 1987 and 1994, has not been swayed by Ayew’s display during his time with the club.

“Ali Koc and Ersun Yanal must think again if they want to make Ayew’s deal permanent. Ayew has not impressed during his time at the club,” the 56-year-old told Turkish Television station NTV.

Ayew has scored 4 times this season in 20 appearances for Fenerbahce who find themselves in turmoil this season – sitting just two points from the bottom of the Turkish top flight, and 21 points behind leaders Istanbul Basaksehir.

Dilmen played for the Yellow Canaries for seven seasons (1987 -1994) as a midfielder.
