Ghana’s Black Satellites arrived neighbouring Togo Tuesday evening ahead of the 2018 West Africa Football Union (Wafu) Zone B Under-20 Cup of Nations scheduled for December 6 start.
Ghana are housed in Group B of the eight-nation championship alongside Niger, Benin and rivals Nigeria.
Satellites will play all their group games at Stade Municipal, Lomé – first vs Niger at 18:30 GMT on December 7, then Benin two days later (KO: 15:30 GMT) and then take on Nigeria at 16:00 GMT on December 12.
Head coach Jimmy Corbblah named two foreign-based players – midfielder Michael Baidoo (FC Midtjylland) and goalkeeper Nurudeen Abdul Manaf (K.A.S Eupen) – in his 20-man squad.
Coach Jimmy Cobblah and his Satellites would use the Wafu Zone B Under-20 Cup of Nations as part of their preparations for the 2019 Afcon slated for Niger February 24 to March 10.
“We believe the Wafu isn’t about the cup but its preparation,” he told the press. “We have spent some time with the team during the qualifiers where we invited some European players. And now they are gone.”
“So we have decided to look at the local players around and understudy them from now to the tournament. And we will know those who can make the team after the WAFU for Afcon,” Corbblah added.
The Wafu Zone B Under-20 Cup ends December 16.
