Caf takes 2018 Super Cup to Qatar

The Confederation of African Football (Caf), today, officially confirmed that the 2018 Super Cup will be played in Qatar.

Rumours of the traditional fixture between winners of the Champions League and Confederation Cup emerged after Moroccan side Raja Casablanca won the latter almost a fortnight ago.

“Caf executive committee decided that Total Caf Super Cup 2018 between Espérance Sportive de Tunis & Raja Club Athletic will be played in Qatar. The date and time will be announced later,” the continental football governing body announced Wednesday.

It will be the first time the competitive cup fixture, traditionally hosted by the winner of the Caf Champions League, will be honoured outside the African continent.

Qatar, which is set to host the next Fifa World Cup in 2022, has become the new destination for such a one-off cup match. Africa is following the lead of Italy who have held their 2014 and 2016 Super Cup games in the gulf country.
