Caf CC: “We’ve had best of receptions in Ghana” – Sharks chief

Chairman of Kenya’s Kariobangi Sharks, Robert Maoga has debunked reports indicating that his side is being maltreated ahead of their 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup round of 32 second leg tie against Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.

Reports are rife in Kenya that, their football association is complaining that Sharks were stranded when they arrived in Ghana. The reports also state that they were advised to seek alternative means of local transportation.

But according to Maoga, the team received the best of receptions since their arrival in Ghana, contrary to what is being circulated back home.

“…no, that’s misinformation. We’ve been received well. From the airport we had people taking care of us. I don’t think there’s any indication that they’re mistreating us. We’re okay.  So far I think we’ve got the best of receptions. I have no complains,” he told Oyerepa FM on arrival at the Kumasi airport.

Despite the scoreless stalemate in the first leg in Nairobi, Maoga is confident the team would secure a favourable scoreline which will propel them to the next stage.

“We’re ready. We prepared well. We played our premier league match two days ago, Tuesday and we are here for the same scoreline. We want to go as far as possible. Our target is to get to the group stage.

“You saw Asante Kotoko celebrating after the draw. That’s not what we want. We want to go as far as we can. We are here to compete,” he stated.

The game is scheduled to take place at 15:30 GMT on Saturday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
