U-17 WWC: Coach Adotey happy with Maidens start

Coach Evans Adotey is a pleased man after guiding Ghana to an emphatic opening day win over hosts Uruguay at the 2018 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup finals.

With five unanswered goals at Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo, the Black Maidens matched their best ever score at the cadet World Cup. Coincidentally, it came against the same opposition they beat at the Azerbaijan edition six years ago.

“Good start, brilliant display by my ladies and then three points in my basket; that’s all I was looking for,” said coach Adotey Tuesday night.

“We came to defend and attack and attack and defend as well so my tactics worked to perfection as I was expecting.

“We will need to go back and make corrections on what we saw wrong and how we can improve our game tactics…,” he added.

Fuseina Mumuni opened the scoring for Ghana in the 20th minute with Mukarama Abdulai following up with the start of her hat-trick journey 5 minutes later. First half substitute Millot Pokuaa made it 3-0 on 67 minutes before Abdulai scored back-to-back goals to complete the 5-0 mauling.

Ghana return for their second match at the tournament at 1900 GMT on Friday when they take on Finland also at the Estadio Charrúa, Montevideo.
