Mali not a threat for Black Queens, says Okyere

Ghana midfielder Priscilla Okyere has stated emphatically that she and her teammates are unfazed about Mali threat when the two sides lock horns on Tuesday afternoon.

The Black Queens play Les Aiglonnes in their second game in Group A of the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Bashir Hayford’s side secured all three points in their first game against Algeria, thanks to a solitary strike by Gladys Amfobea.

Mali, on the other succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Cameroon, despite dominating the game on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Okyere indicated that the Queens have what it takes to pick the maximum points against Mali, having played them twice in the last two years.

Ghana, despite creating chances in their opener, failed to bury then. But Okyere is optimistic that the team would be more purposeful upfront on Tuesday.

“We saw Mali play last Saturday. They have a good team and they are a great side. We played with them in our last game in 2016 and just like this game, we needed the win.

“They gave us a tough first half but we came back to beat them 3-1 in the second half so they aren’t a threat to us at all.

“They have improved but we have seen them in 2016 in Cameroon and last year in Ivory Coast and they can’t be a threat to us.

“We created several chances in our game against Algeria but failed to take them but against Mali, we will create the chances and make sure we utilize them,” she added.

The game is scheduled to take place 15:30 GMT.
