Friendly: Banyana confirm Black Queens date for Nov. 11

The South Africa Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that the friendly between Banyana Banyana and Ghana’s Black Queens will come off at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 11.

The friendly for the two nations drawn apart in the upcoming 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations comes up at exactly 4:00pm local time.

South Africa will use the friendly to adjust to conditions at the Accra Sports Stadium where they will hold their final group game against Zambia.

Head Coach of Banyana Banyana, Desiree Ellis told SAFA how important the friendly will contribute to their campaign.

“Well to play the host country in Ghana is another step to check our readiness for the tournament. Getting used to the conditions as well as playing a top team like them will give us another different challenge and prepare us for the competition.

“We will get to experience firsthand the atmosphere, which will almost be like what we will go through when the tournament starts,” said Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis.

South Africa has been drawn in Group B alongside Nigeria, Kenya and Zambia, while Ghana will take on Cameroon, Mali and Algeria in Group A.

The two nations last met in the 2016 Women’s Afcon in Cameroon, with Ghana emerging victorious 1-0 in a bronze medal fight.

The Black Queens flew out of Ghana to play friendlies against Zambia and Kenya on November 3 and 7 respectively and are expected back to the country on November 9.

The 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations also serves as the qualifiers for the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup, the top three nations automatically qualify for the World Cup.

Both nations will be hoping to snatch tickets to the tournament for the first time.
