Caf CC: Nii Adjei, Nyarko in; Frimpong out of final Kotoko squad

Asante Kotoko included two more players but were forced to withdraw defender Yaw Frimpong’s registration for their 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup campaign.

The Porcupine Warriors were given the opportunity to update the initial 26-man squad they submitted as a result of the Confederation of African Football’s decision to extend the registration deadline by three more days.

Kotoko had re-signed the former TP Mazembe right-back on a one-year renewable contract and included him in their list but have not beaten a retreat by revoking the 31-year-old’s registration on health grounds, Footy-Ghana.com understands. Club sources indicate Frimpong, who has been with the team at their Takoradi training camp, was briefly hospitalized Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, midfield returnees Daniel Nii Adjei and Stephen Nyarko have been roped into the Africa squad. The latter, who rejoined Kotoko a couple of months ago from Tunisian side CS Sfaxien, nearly missed out due to a contractual dispute which has now been resolved.

Head coach CK Akonnor now has a pool of 27 players to work with.

Asante Kotoko are yet to know their opponents for the preliminary rounds of the 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup which is scheduled to begin November 27.
