Banyana promised $11,250 each for Women’s Afcon title [+BONUS PACKAGE]

Each member of the Banyana Banyana squad of 21 for the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is to earn an appearance fee $2,813 and a further $11,250 if they emerge champions.

This is according to a remuneration structure put together by the South Africa Football Association (Safa) and senior national women’s team sponsors Sasol.

South Africa – the four-time runners-up – aim to win the 11th edition of the Women’s Afcon Ghana 2018 but must first negotiate Group B of the championship to the grand finale.

They play Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and Zambia on November 18, 21 and 24 respectively.

Per the package for the team, the players will share an amount of R840 000 ($59,085), which is R40 000 ($2,813) per head as appearance/participation fee.

Also, a bonus of R1 260 000 ($88,628) for a third place finish; R1 575 000 ($110,785) for placing second and while R2 520 000 ($177,260) will be made available for the 21 players to share for winning the Women’s Afcon tournament. Each player will thus receive a performance bonus of R160 000 ($11,250) for becoming champions.

The reward package is believed to aim at propelling Banyana Banyana to secure a first ever World Cup spot at the 2019 finals in France.

South Africa coach Desiree Ellis selected quite an experienced squad dominated by players who have previously taken part of the Women’s Afcon. The team travels to Ghana on Friday and will engage the tournament hosts in a friendly on Sunday, November 11.
