Nyantakyi banned for life, fined half a million – Fifa

World football governing body, FIfa has dished out life ban to former Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi over ‘conflict of interest, bribery and corruption as well as commission’.

Fifa, Tuesday, said Nyantakyi, the one-time Fifa Council member and 1st vice-president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), is banned from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.

Nyantakyi, who was first notified of the decision before its release to the media, is also fined 500,000 Swiss francs (about $497,000) and the ban “comes into force immediately.”

Fifa said: “The adjudicatory chamber found Mr. Nyantakyi guilty of having violated art. 19 (Conflicts of interest) art. 21 (Bribery and corruption) and art. 22 (Commission) of the Fifa Code of Ethics, 2012 edition. As a consequence, Mr. Nyantakyi is banned for life…”

Fifa began investigating Nyantakyi in June after undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas petitioned them over the conduct of the renowned football administrator over a corruption sting he had undertaken.

A 90-day provisional suspension was initially slapped on Nyantakyi. It got an extension of 45 days after which the Ethics Committee took its final decision.
