Owner and bankroller of Medeama SC, Moses Armah ‘Parker’ has poured cold water on the club’s interest in representing Ghana in the 2018/19 Caf Champions League.
The declaration – based on financial standing – comes in sharp contrast to a path propagated by the club’s management especially in the past week.
The Ghana Football Association’s Normalization Committee recently acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Yellow and Mauves asking for a pass to participate in the upcoming Caf Champions League due to the club’s position on the 2017/18 Premier League log before its abrupt end a couple of months ago.
But in a sharp U-turn, the Bankroller of the Tarkwa-based club said in a radio interview: “we are not ready to represent Ghana in any Caf competition disregard reports circulating in the media. There is no iota of truth in those stories.”
“We don’t have the money to play Africa for now, let’s all help the Normalization Committee,” Armah noted.
In their last outing, Medeama reached the group phase of the 2016-17 Caf Confederations Cup – finishing third in a group consisting of TP Mazembe, Young Africans and MO Bejaia.
And according to Moses Armah, there was no financial support during that campaign, not even from the government.
“We suffered a lot in our last appearance in the Caf Confederation Cup because there was no support from anywhere [not even the government at that time].
“It is simple Medeama is not ready to play in Africa. We don’t have the adequate funds to play in Africa,” he declared.
Asante Kotoko will be the sole representatives for Ghana in the 2018/19 Caf inter-club competitions. They will compete in the Confederation Cup which begins November 27.
