‘Let’s join hands to perform miracles’ – Akonnor tells Kotoko family

New Asante Kotoko coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has entreated the entire Porcupine family to join hands with him in the journey to perform “miracles” to bring the club back to its glory days.

The 44-year-old former Ghana and Wolfsburg captain, Wednesday, faced the media for the first time after his appointment by the record league champions on Monday October 1.

In a three-year contract ending September 30, 2021, Akonnor has been tasked to win any continental laurel within the shortest possible time.

A daunting task it looks but the former midfielder believes it’s doable only with all hands on deck.

“I have come a long way and God has been with me throughout so I give him the glory… I pray he leads me in this journey and I know definitely I will pass.

“The journey is very tough and I must say in my coaching career, this is the biggest challenge that I’ve ever had…,” Akonnor uttered in his first words to the media Tuesday afternoon.

“Now I’m here, I plead with all to accept me as I am. I’m human, will make mistakes but I will move on.

“What is important is that we all have to understand [that] I’m not here as a ‘miraculous man’; I’m here for us to perform the miracles [together]; all of us – supporters, management and playing body. That is the only way we can go and we must do this with all understanding

“I’m here with a three-year contract in my hands and a target has been set for me. The target is achievable but we would have to do a lot to get there,” he noted.

C.K Akonnor was also handed a newly developed code of conduct document to guide him during his stint at Kotoko.

Asante Kotoko becomes the fifth managerial home for after Sekondi XI Wise, Accra Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC and very recently AshantiGold.
