Kotoko get nod to play in Africa – report

Asante Kotoko have received approval to participate in the 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup which begins late November, it has emerged.

A consensus had been reached at a meeting between the GFA Normalization Committee and league clubs last week that Ghana should not make a representation in the upcoming Caf inter-club competitions for the 2018/19 season.

The resolution was reached due to the fact that the Premier League and FA Cup had been suspended since a corruption scandal cropped up in June this year.

But on Monday, the Porcupine Warriors decided to formally petition the Normalization Committee, quoting relevant Caf Statutes, to reconsider the decision and allow them represent the country as holders of the last FA Cup following the inability of the country to organize this year’s competition.

The Normalization Committee in a marathon meeting Friday is reported to have considered Kotoko’s petition and given them the nod.

When contacted, Asante Kotoko CEO George Amoako said the club had not been communicated to officially yet but had picked signals from a credible source that their request had been granted.

Should the GFA Normalization Committee officially confirm Asante Kotoko’s participation, coach C.K Akonnor’s side would have exactly a month to prepare and play in the 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup. The preliminary round kicks off November 27.
