10 dropped, six more foreign-based stars to join Black Queens squad

Ghana coach Bashir Hayford has axed 10 players from his Black Queens squad ahead of the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Nineteen players are currently in camp with six more foreign-based players – Sandra Owusu Ansah, Portia Boakye, Faustina Ampah, Priscilla Okyere, Sherifatu Sumaila and Samira Sulemana – expected to join camp by close of week for the final phase of preparations.

The Ghana women’s national team are expected to leave the country in batches on Tuesday and Wednesday for a two-nation tour where they will play test games against Zambia’s Shepolopolo and the Harambee Starlets of Kenya.

The Queens will train in Lusaka for a couple of days before taking on Zambia on November 3 before switching to East Africa to play Kenya on the 7th.

Coach Bashir Hayford is expected to finalize his squad of 21 players for the Women’s Afcon before the team return from their tour.

The Black Queens will also face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in Accra as their final preparatory match.

Ghana is housed in Group A with Algeria, Mali and Cameroon. The 2018 Women’s Afcon runs from November 17 to December 1 at the Accra and Cape Coast Sports Stadiums.
