Partey warns ‘lucky’ Kenya

Thomas Partey has warned Kenya to brace up for a serious flogging when Ghana next face them at home in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

According to the midfielder, the Harambee Stars were just lucky to get away with a slim victory on Saturday.

Kenya managed a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Black Stars in an edgy 2019 Africa Nations Cup Group F qualifier played at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani in Nairobi.

The surprise result has added optimism within the Kenyan team which remains on track to secure a place in the Afcon they last featured in 14 years ago.

But Partey is confident Kenya will not survive the reverse fixture.

“Kenyans should come up with a basket in Ghana (to carry the many goals they will concede),” he is quoted as telling Nairobi News at the Black Stars team hotel on Sunday.

“They played well. Kenya is a solid team with tactical discipline and each player sticks to his role. But we should have won the game with the chances we got,” Partey pointed out.

About half a dozen of the Black Stars players have already departed the team camp in Nairobi and the rest of the team is expected to leave on Monday.

Ghana next face Sierra Leone in back-to-back encounters in the Afcon qualifiers  in October.
