FIFA extends Nyantakyi ban 45 more days

The adjudicatory chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee has extended the provisional ban on former Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi for another 45 days.

A statement Wednesday read: “On 8 June 2018, the chairperson of the adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee provisionally banned the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, for a duration of 90 days.

“Today, the chairperson has decided to extend this provisional suspension for an additional period of 45 days. During this time, Mr Nyantakyi will continue to be banned from all football-related activities at both national and international level. The extension of the ban will commence on 6 September 2018.”

“This decision was taken at the request of the chairperson of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee carrying out the formal investigation proceedings into Mr Nyantakyi, pursuant to art. 85 par. 1 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.”

Nyantakyi is being investigated as a result of a petition by Ghanaian undercover journalist who captured the administrator receiving gift/bribe.

In a video documentary aired on June 6, the former FIFA Council member was shown himself involving in a dubious sponsorship deal with supposed investors and demanded close to $15 million to grease the palms of senior government officials to court favours for the sponsors against the code of the GFA, CAF and FIFA.

He was also recorded proposing to set up a personal agency to receive between 20-25% Commission on a supposed $15 million sponsorship for the Ghana Premier League.
