Akonnor holds talks with Kotoko over two-year deal

Former Ghana skipper CK Akonnor has been engaged in official talks over becoming the new Asante Kotoko coach, Footy-Ghana.com has confirmed.

The Caf License B holder held ‘fruitful talks’ with the Porcupine Warriors in Kumasi over the weekend during which a two-year contract was proposed.

“Yes he [Akonnor] is one of our targets and we’ve held talks with him but no decision has been made. He is under consideration just like other coaches who are being engaged as well. We will make a choice out of the options available and officially communicate soon,” a management source told us.

The Kotoko job became vacant by the shock decision of coach Paa Kwasi Fabin to resign from the club last Thursday.

It is understood that club Chairman Kwame Kyei ruled out the consideration of a foreign coach forcing management to zero in on Akonnor and former Aduana boss Yusif Abubakar as top options.

C.K Akonnor has had coaching stints with Sekondi XI Wise, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC and very recently his boyhood club AshantiGold with whom he parted ways late June.

Assistant coach Akakpo Patron is currently holding the fort until the oofficial announcement of the new head coach of Asante Kotoko.
