Trabzonspor sign Caleb Ekuban

Ghana hopeful, Caleb Ekuban has joined Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor on loan.

The Italian-born striker – who pledged his international future to Ghana after meeting Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah in April – has been signed for only the 2018/19 season.

Ekuban was forced out of English Championship side Leeds United after new boss Marcelo Bielsa deemed him surplus to requirement this summer. He was subsequently denied a squad number for the ongoing season and needed to find a new club.

Leeds signed the 24-year-old from Chievo Verona in summer of 2017 but he failed to impress, scoring once in 20 appearances.

According to Ekuban, he struggled last season due to injuries.

“You know football, sometimes you go on top [form], but sometimes you cannot show yourself because of the injuries you have experienced. I have had a bad season due to injuries in the past year but I can say that I am fit and I will do the best I can for Trabzonspor,” he stated at his signing ceremony on Wednesday.

Caleb Ekuban will be hoping to return to that form that could earn him a first call-up to the Ghana national team as he links up with other Africans Zargo Toure, Ogenyi Onazi and Anthony Nwakaeme at Trabzonspor.
