Normalization Committee for Ghana to finish work March 2019 – Fifa

The Normalization Committee to run the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to complete its work with the election of a new Executive Committee by end of March 2019 at the latest, Fifa has said.

The about-to-be announced Normalization Committee will be replacing the Executive Committee of the GFA which has been dissolved by the world football governing body.

The composition of the expected Normalization Committee will only be revealed after a Fifa and Caf delegation heading to Ghana assesses the names proposed by government in the coming days.

A letter signed by Fifa Secretary General Fatma Samoura to the Government of Ghana on Monday August 27 said ‘the Bureau of the Council has decided to appoint the Normalization Committee for the Ghana Football Association’ after deciding to ‘withdraw the notice to suspend the Ghana Football Association.’

According to the Fifa letter, the Normalization Committee’s mandate will include:

  1. To run the GFA’s daily affairs and co-operate with the task force once it has been set up by Fifa, Caf and the Government of Ghana;
  2. To review the GFA Statutes to ensure compliance with the requirements of Fifa and Caf particularly article 15 of the Fifa Statutes;
  3. Once the GFA Statutes meets the requirements of Fifa and Caf, this Normalization Committee will organize and conduct the elections of the GFA Executive Committee on the basis of the revised GFA Statutes.

The Fifa letter also noted that ‘the specified period of time during which the Normalization Committee shall perform its functions shall expire when all the above mentioned tasks have been properly fulfilled but by no later than the 31st of March 2019.’

The formation of the Normalization Committee follows a consensus between Fifa and the Government of Ghana after the latter accepted to discontinue the court processes which sought to dissolve the country’s football association.
