Blunder! Kotoko apologize for appointing a ‘physio’ as medical officer

Asante Kotoko say they are taking steps to correct an anomaly in the appointment of a medical officer for the club.

In an obvious due diligence failure, the club announced Mr. Jerry Pratt Newton, who has been in and out of the club over the past few seasons with the physiotherapist qualification and portfolio as new ‘medical officer.‘

Newton, footy-ghana.com recalls, worked with former club doctor Kwaku Boateng from the KK Sarpong-led administration through to the time of his departure midway into the Opoku Nti era. Newton briefly held the fort until the change of administration to the Kwame Kyei in November 2016.

Following concerns over the qualification of Jerry Newton for the new post as club ‘medical officer’, a key member of the new Asante Kotoko management has admitted the club has met to review the appointment.

“Per the records we have, we realize he [Jerry Newton] is a specialized physiotherapist. We would like to apologize for this glitch. Steps are being taken to make necessary corrections,” Nana Akwasi Gyambibi, Special Assistant to Asante Kotoko’s Executive Chairman said.

On Monday, Kotoko’s Executive Chairman, Kwame Kyei announced a new 11-member management team to be led by experienced administrator George Amoako.

The likes of Caleb Adams (Physiotherapist), Isaac Donkor (Operations), Lawyer Samuel Sarfo Duku (Communications), Rose Padmore Yeboah (Administrative Manager), Lucy Andoh (Deputy Administrative Manager) and Nana Akwasi Gyambebi (Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman) who had been working in various capacities were handed official portfolios.

Also Edmund Ackah and Nana Kwame Dankwah who were under past administrations have also been appointed as Greater Accra Representatives with the latter to act as deputy.
