U-20 WWC: Basigi focused on preps amid Gov’t-FA saga

Black Princesses head coach Yusif Basigi says his charges are not perturbed by the current happenings in Ghana’s football and will soar on to achieve greatness in the 2018 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The West African nation’s soccer has been halted after an undercover investigative documentary by top journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas  revealed multiple corrupt acts by the Ghana Football Association officials. For Basigi, the team are totally concentrated on making it to the France-hosted tourney.

“Fortunately for us, the girls seem not to know the details of the matter and they are only thinking of whether Fifa will ban Ghana or not. They are not following the situation on the ground now because it is beyond them.

It is beyond me myself, it is beyond many of us. It is at the top level and the prayer was that they shouldn’t ban Ghana,” the gaffer revealed to 442gh.

The former Hasaacas tactician added that the players responded rapidly to the training camp call due to their eagerness to feature in the football mundial.

“I understand them because to most of them, it is the only source of livelihood. They want to go there and get the exposure, then, maybe the lucky ones, the potential ones will get contract outside.

“So when they were asked to come to camp, you could see the enthusiasm at which they responded to the call. Their training means that they are much ready,” Basigi concluded.

The  U-20 Fifa Women’s World Cup is slated for August 5-24. Ghana are placed in Group A alongside hosts France, Netherlands and New Zealand.
