WATCH: Ghana rescue 2-2 draw with Iceland in World Cup warm-up

Thomas Partey scored late and earned Ghana a 2-2 draw against World Cup-bound Iceland in their final warm-up match in Reykjavik on Thursday evening.

The hosts looked set to finish their World Cup preparations with a flourish but Atletico Madrid man Partey struck three minutes from time to complete Ghana’s comeback from two goals down.

Iceland had taken the lead through defender Kari Arnasson, who headed home a corner in the sixth minute of the match.

The Euro 2016 quarter-finalists then doubled their lead through Alfred Finnbogason when the striker reacted well to nod home after Ghana keeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi could only palm Gylfi Sigurdsson’s shot into his path.

The second half saw the visitors, who missed out on World Cup qualification, ramp up the pressure and they halved the deficit on 66 minutes through Kassim Nuhu.

And Partey completed the comeback late on as Iceland’s World Cup preparations suffered a blow ahead of the start of the Russia tournament next week.

The Black Stars, a week ago, also defeated World Cup-bound Japan 2-0 in a warm-up game in Yokohoma. These two games have afforded head coach Kwasi Appiah the opportunity to test the level of the Ghana team who are making preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled to resume in September.

Ghana failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
