#Number12: Ghana Twitter ‘descend’ on Asamoah Gyan

Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan may not have gauged the mood of his followers well in this Anas exposé period on corruption in Ghana football when he took to Twitter to rally support for the team ahead of their international assignment against Iceland.

The senior national team will play the Boys tonight at the Laugardalsvollur.

Gyan, in a ‘harmless’ post, replying to journalist Juliet Bawuah’s tweet on the match, expressed worry that the Black Stars have been relegated to the background as the talk around the alleged corruption revelations now dominate discussions.

The reactions from his followers really expressed how Ghanaians are annoyed with the corrupt acts of the Nyantakyi-led football system.

But the captain, eager and passionate about the Black Stars, was never perturbed and still garnered support for the team. 75 minutes later, the 32-year-old tweeted again saying:

But further response from the followers were intensified as most tweets urged Gyan to ignore the friendly encounter.

Asamoah Gyan is not part of the Ghana squad to face Iceland in the 2018 World Cup warm-up match at 8pm.
