GFA, GPL reps to join gov’t delegation in Fifa meeting Thursday

Fifa has scheduled a meeting at their headquarters with the Ghana government and four football stakeholders of the country.

The meeting slated for Thursday, June 28 is as part of the World Football governing body’s plan to continue their discussions on the situation of the country’s football.

A three-man delegation from Fifa led by Véron Mosengo-Omba were in Accra last Friday were they met the Sports Minister and a team from government without the involvement of members of the underfire Ghana Football Association (GFA).

In a signed letter by Mosengo-Omba on Tuesday, Fifa has now extended invitations to two GFA officials – Executive Committee member Kweku Eyiah and Protocol Officer Alex Asante as well as Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom and Sam Brew-Butler as representatives from ‘Ghana’s elite league clubs’. These four persons will join government’s delegation to meet Fifa.

According to the letter addressing the Sports Minister, the meeting “is an important step in FIFA’s efforts to put in place interim measures to allow the continuation of football in Ghana” adding that it “will serve as an opportunity to consult you and other stakeholders on this process.”

“Mr Eyiah Kweku Abaku and Mr. Alex Asante will represent the Ghana Football Association at the meeting. Please note that Mr. Asante will also meet with members of the FIFA administration so that they can facilitate the participation of the Ghana U-20 women’s national team at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018 (5 – 24 August 2018). Additionally, the Ghana elite league clubs will be represented by Mr. Samuel Brew-Butler and Mr. Papa Nduom at this meeting,” it also read.

Government of the Republic of Ghana

Zurich, 26 June 2018

Meeting in Zurich – Thursday 28 June 2018

Dear Honourable Minister

We would like to thank you for our meeting at your offices on Friday 22 June 2018. Based on our discussions and as indicated in the statement following the meeting in Accra, we invite you and your delegation to a meeting at the Home of FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday 28 June 2018 at 14:00.

Our meeting in Zurich will be a continuation of our discussions in Accra. This is an important step in FIFA’s efforts to put in place interim measures to allow the continuation of football in Ghana. In this respect, this meeting will serve as an opportunity to consult you and other stakeholders on this process.

Mr Eyiah Kweku Abaku and Mr. Papa Nduom at this meeting.

Due to a previous FIFA commitment, I will not be able to attend the meeting. However, my colleagues in the FIFA Member Associations Division and the Member Associations Governance Services Department are well aware of the situation in Ghana. They will ably lead the meeting and facilitate the discussions. I am confident that the meeting will be positive and led to progressive developments from the current situation.

Thank you for confirming your availability for the meeting on Thursday 28 June. If you and your delegation need invitation letters for visa purposes, please send your passport details and itineraries to my colleague Solomon Mudege (solomon.mudege@fifa.org). Should you require accommodation while in Zurich, we will gladly arrange your hotel rooms and local transportation in Zurich at our cost.

We look forward to our meeting and remain at your disposal for any further information that you may require.
