U-20 WWC: Ghana’s preps on hold due to food shortage

Black Princesses coach Yusif Basigi says lack of food is the main reason hampering his team’s preparations for the 2018 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup.

After securing a fifth successive qualification to the tournament with a 4-1 aggregate win over Cameroon, the Princesses are expected to begin camping with two months to the commencement of the tourney but things look gloomy for the team.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Coach Basigi revealed his worry, given the short time they have to prepare for the tournament.

“We are waiting for green light before we can start camping but the truth is time is not on our side,” he said.

“Per our arrangement with the GFA, we were supposed to start camping about a month ago, unfortunately that has not been the case.

“The main reason why we are not in camp is because there is no food available for the girls to eat at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

“The GFA was supposed to arrange with a caterer to cater for the team in camp but as I speak to you now that has not been done,” Basigi added.

The 2018 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup will run from 5-24 August.
