Karela reject Kotoko move to sign Maxwell Baakoh

Karela United have turned down Asante Kotoko’s bid to re-sign former youth team player Maxwell Baakoh.

The winger was let go by the Porcupine Warriors a couple of seasons ago. He joined Wa All Stars where he helped them to the 2015/16 season league title before ending up at the Nzema Aiyinase-based club prior to the start of the ongoing campaign.

Baakoh was on the score sheet when Karela thrashed Kotoko 3-1 in their first league meeting earlier this month and his performance appears to have convinced Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin to request for his services.

Kotoko have been rebuffed and told they could give signing the 22-year-old another try at the end of the season.

“Asante Kotoko wrote to us officially on Maxwell Baakoh. It was discussed at management level and we have replied appropriately.

“After deliberating on their letter, we have communicated to them he is not leaving till after the season where we can give it a thought,” Director of Communications and Marketing at Karela United FC, Eric Alagidede explained to Oyerepa FM.

He added: “At least, by that time we would have known our position on the league log whether we are staying or leaving the top flight.

“So it’s not true we are reporting them [Kotoko] to the GFA.”
