Hearts, WAFA play out barren draw

Hearts of Oak could only manage a 0-0 draw against WAFA SC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on matchday 13 of the 2017/18 ZylofonCash Premier League.

After drawing goalless against Liberty in game 12, the Phobians looked poised to grab the maximum points as they showcased right from the start of the first half. The home side pressed their opponents but wasted good opportunities that could have granted them the lead for the first twenty minutes.

New guys William Dankyi and Camara Nguessan who were playing their first match for the club, gave a good account of themselves. Dankyi held the left back position, sending in two delightful crosses which Isaac Mensah and Joseph Esso failed to utilize.

Wafa could hardly find their notable passing rhythm; the visitors had most of their passes in midfield intersected by Akowuah and Camara who were in control of the game for the Rainbow Boys. With the Academy Boys struggling in midfield, the attacking trio of Charles Boateng, Justice Amate and Augustine Boakye looked disappointing.

The first half ended with both teams failing to break the deadlock.

After half time, Hearts kept pressuring for the first goal but their efforts were thwarted by the Wafa defence and goalie Prince Bilson who displayed a solid performance. The Academy Boys came close at the dying embers of the duel but subtitute Richard Danso’s attempt was saved by Hearts shot-stopper Benjamin Mensah.

The two sides settled for a point each. That stalemate means the Phobians have drawn in their last two games while Wafa return to winning ways after sharing the spoils (1-1) against Wa All Stars on matchday 12.

Benjamin Agyare claimed the NASCO Man of the Match award.

The visitors will remain 7th on the league table with 19 points while Hearts lie 11th with 16 points, seven points behind leaders Medeama SC. The Phobians face Inter Allies who have a good home record at the Tema Sports Stadium. Sigh!
