Eric Donkor agrees AshGold deal after Kotoko exit

AshantiGold have reached a deal with Eric Donkor – one that will see the defender move to the Len Clay Stadium outfit after passing his medical.

The left-back, who parted ways with Asante Kotoko after a seven-year stint last week, reached personal terms and signed the memorandum at the Kumasi office of the CEO of the Miners Wednesday morning.

Donkor will now have to undergo mandatory tests to validate his free agent switch.

“We have reached an agreement pending medical with Eric Donkor. Once, it is done the deal is completed,” CEO Fred Acheampong confirmed.

Throwing light on what informed the decision to sign the calm defender who won three league titles and two FA Cup trophies during his time at Kotoko, the AshGold CEO stated:

“We are signing Donkor based on experience. He has so much experience in the local league having played for many years at Kotoko.

“He comes in straight as probably a backup to our first choice Roland Amouzou. We were short in numbers at left-back. Our captain Tijani Joshua, who is a right-back, usually had to stand in whenever Amouzou was not available so we needed to fix that problem.”

AshantiGold have also snapped up Ivorian forward Baba Salia Affoloh Ouattara.

“We have signed him and going through documentations to have him registered. Baba Salia is a forward – though not a typical goal scorer, we believe he would be of immense help to our attack,” the AshGold boss explained.

Baba Salia played many years with AS Denguélé in the Ivory Coast Ligue until he moved abroad in 2013 and joined Royal Thai Navy F.C. playing in the Thai Division 1 League, Thailand’s second level.

In January 2015, he signed with Serbian side FK Mladost Lučani but made no appearance in the 2014/15 Serbian SuperLiga. In the following summer, the 28-year-old returned to Asia, this time by signing with Vitnamese side Sông Lam Nghệ An F.C. playing in the V.League 1 where he played for a couple of years.

AshantiGold are top of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League with 21 points after 12 games.
