Title Sponsor: FreshPaK pumps GH¢500k into Women’s League

FreshPaK, a subsidiary of Groupe Nduom, has dedicated half a million Ghana cedis to become title sponsors of the National Women’s League.

The sponsorship of the top women’s club competition in the country is to span for the next two seasons – GH¢250,000 per campaign.

At the launch of the 2017/18 campaign and the unveiling of new title sponsor on Wednesday, General Manager of FreshPak, Nana Ofori Owusu, said the decision to sponsor the league was borne out of his outfit’s commitment to develop the women’s league.

“It is women who have given us our backbone. If we make profit, it is because of the women who patronize our products. When our Groupe called on us to sponsor the league, we knew it was something we could not negotiate because we saw it as an opportunity to contribute our quota to the improvement of the women’s football”.

“When a quality company like FreshPak is associated with quality women and what they are doing for Mother Ghana, we knew this was something we could not hesitate to be associated with”.

“FreshPak has come out with a policy statement of our Chairman and President, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, and having gone through our accounts we are giving GH¢500,000 to the National Women’s League for a period of two years”.

“Dr Nduom intends to increase the amount of sponsorship if the women’s league becomes more popular”, he said.

An official logo for the national Women’s League was also unveiled.

On his part, President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, described the sponsorship as a relief to the football governing body and runners of the league.

“This sponsorship is a relief to the GFA and the Women’s League Board and I know it will go a long way to support the organisation of the league,” he said.

“We wholeheartedly accept this offer and I wish to express our sincere gratitude to our new sponsors, especially Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom for his commitment in sponsoring Ghana football,” Nyantakyi added.

The 16-team FreshPaK National Women’s League is split into two zones – Northern and Southern after which the top teams face off in a decider to crown the season’s champions.

This year’s zonal league kicks off April 7 through to July with the playoffs set to take place in September.

Ampem Darkoa ladies are defending champions. They start their season at home to Kumasi Sports Academy at the Ohene Ameyaw Technical Park on Sunday.
