Adebayor free-kick gives Inter Allies win over WAFA

A Victorien Adebayor free-kick sealed full points for Inter Allies as they beat WAFA SC 1-0 on matchday five of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League Sunday.

Both sides never really troubled each other in the first 20 minutes of the game at the Tema Stadium.

But it was Inter Allies, who badly needed to bounce back from their heavy defeat at Dormaa last weekend, who came near to scoring first.

While WAFA were enjoying some decent possession, they got forward with Richard Danso but his powerful drive from 20 yards got palmed away by Inter Allies goalkeeper Saed Salifu who stepped in for the suspended first-choice Kwame Baah.

Winger Victorien Adebayor nearly punished WAFA from a set piece in the 32nd minute. His effort forced goalkeeper Richmond Ayi to dive and tip the ball over the bar for a corner kick.

Adebayor would however get it right early in the second half. A free-kick at the edge of the box, two minutes after recess, saw the Nigerien international hit the ball with his left foot straight into the back of the net, the only goal of the game.

Adebayor had a chance to register his brace during time added on after breaking away on a counter – he was clear on goal but his strike took a deflection.

Inter Allies skipper Hashmin Musah courted himself trouble in the final moments – a straight red card for a bad tackle on second half substitute Jamal Haruna.

WAFA SC’s Umar Basiru was named NASCO man-of-the-match.

The lone goal victory lifts Inter Allies to second position, four points adrift leaders AshantiGold who have amassed 13 from five games.
