Chief Executive Officer of Berekum Chelsea Nana Kwame Nketia has stated that the club will appeal the three-game home ban handed to them by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association.
The ruling is as a result of the Blues’ physical assault on referee Yakubu Liman Nuhu during their home fixture against Dreams FC in match day 2 of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League. The tensed duel ended 1-1.
According to media reports in Berekum, referee Nuhu Liman was attacked by the Blues supporters for bad officiating and was later rushed to the hospital after falling unconscious.
The Disciplinary Committee of the GFA thereby handed the Berekum based club a three-match home sanction but for Nana Kwame Nketia, that decision will certainly be appealed.
“We will appeal the decision from the Disciplinary Commitee,” Nketia stated on Happy FM.
“If the referee claims he was beaten up by Berekum Chelsea fans to a point where he fainted and got hospitalized, where did he get the strength to officiate in a midweek match?”
“The stuffs he claimed were missen due to the assaults are the same stuffs he is wearing; I’m talking about the slippers and wrist watch.”
Berekum Chelsea are lying 16th on the league log having played four matches. With their two outstanding fixtures yet to be played, the Disciplinary Committee’s verdict might affect their pursuit for a top four spot.
The 2010/11 Premier League winners will not play their week 7 game against Bechem United at their dreaded Golden City Park.
