Ashgold CEO says league title not the major target

Chief Executive Officer of AshantiGold SC, Frederick Acheampong has stated that winning the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League is not their ultimate target.

After amassing 13 points out of a possible 15, the Obuasi based club are the only side in the ongoing Ghana Premier League yet to taste defeat after five rounds of matches.

Despite such an enviable start, the Club CEO asserts that claiming the league title is out of their thoughts.

“We only discuss upcoming matches and not the league trophy. Knowing our relegation struggles last year, our concentration is not on clinching the league.”

“It is not our prime target but we’re keen on landing a good position at the end of the season,” the ace media practitioner told Zylofon Sports.

Acheampong further stated that the secret behind the club’s recent stupendous performance is down to determination and the work of their gaffer.

“When you have a demanding coach like C.K Akonnor, it becomes difficult for players to switch off. He has been the reason behind our current form because our players are determined.”

“When you talk to C.K Akonnor after each game, you realize he knows exactly what he is doing. The inclusion of John Christiansen as the technical director has also been vital because they work hand-in-hand,” he concluded.

Ashantigold will face Liberty Professionals on Wednesday at the Carl Reindolf Park. The Miners will be in hot pursuit for their second away victory as the Scientific Soccer lads also aim for another win after beating Eleven Wonders on Sunday.
