U-20 Women’s WCup: Princesses draw hosts France

Ghana’s Black Princesses were handed familiar foes in the 2018 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup draw Thursday morning after being chosen to face hosts France, Netherlands and New Zealand in Group A.

Coach Yusif Basigi’s girls will start their fifth straight World Cup outing against hosts France in the second game of the opening day in Vannes on August 5.

This will be a repeat of their meeting at the last World Cup in 2016 in Papua New Guinea where the two teams settled for a pulsating 2-2 draw.

Ghana will stay in Vannes for their second game in Group A against Netherlands on August 8, with their final group fixture coming against New Zealand in Concarneau four days later. New Zealand also beat the Princesses 1-0 at Papua New Guinea in 2016.

Ghana’s group games:

France vs Ghana – August 5 – 1930 local time – Stade de la Rabine, Vannes

Netherlands vs Ghana – August 8 – 1630 local time – Stade de la Rabine, Vannes

Ghana vs New Zealand – August 12 – 1630 local time – Stade Guy Piriou, Concarneau

Elsewhere in the draw, fellow Africans Nigeria were placed in Group D alongside Haiti, China and Germany.

The quarterfinals games have been fixed for August 16 and 17 while the semifinals will come off August 20.

The third-place match and grand finale have also been slated for Stade de la Rabine in Vannes on Friday, August 24.
