Reacting to racial abuse won’t make me white – Aziz Tetteh

Russia-based Ghana midfielder Aziz Tetteh has his way of dealing with racial abuse – no reaction he has revealed.

The Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE), an anti-discrimination network reported 89 racist and far-right incidents at Russian games in the 2016/17 season. The problem became especially severe during the last decade as richer clubs began purchasing Brazilian and African players.

There have been anti-racism campaigns by Russian authorities but players continue to suffer abuse.

According to Tetteh, who made a million euros move from Lech Poznan to Dynamo Moscow in January, playing indifferent to the abuses is his best solution.

“I am black by birth and that is my colour. It has been with me always, and it is not unusual for someone to be black.

“If you go to Africa, you will see seven out of ten people as black as me.

“All the teams I go, I joke about this. A black man is a black man and a white man is a white man. If I get upset because of racism, I will not become whiter,” the 27-year-old told Sports 24.

Aziz Tetteh is yet to feature for Dynamo Moscow since arriving on a two-and-half-year contract. The 13th-place side face FC Krassnodar in the Russian Premier League this weekend.
