‘Hearts could not handle our tactics’ – C.K Akonnor

AshantiGold gaffer, C.K Akonnor says he won the tactical battles hence its reflection on his side’s impressive 3-1 victory on the road against Hearts in the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League.

The Miners secured a second straight win as match day 2 began at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday.

“Tactically, we were better and much disciplined. We knew exactly what we had to do to win this game and I think we did it well.

“We made them [Hearts] suffer to see the ball,” he said while explaining the instructions he gave to his players,” Akonnor said while reflecting on the victory.

“I told the boys to keep the ball and they heeded to my instruction which made things difficult for Hearts of Oak. We fully deserved the three points because we were better on the day,” he added.

James Akaminko registered the opening goal in the 9th minute before Amos Addai doubled the lead.

Hearts sought to stage a comeback with Joseph Esso pulling one back in the 75th minute but Shafiu Mumuni shattered the Phobians’ hopes with a sucker punch a minute from time.

AshantiGold’s Richard Osei Agyemang also won the NASCO man-of-the-match award of the game. AshGold will host new entrants Karela FC on matchday 3 this coming Wednesday.
