#GHPLwk3: WAFA beat holders Aduana

WAFA SC scored in both halves to extend their unbeaten home run with a 2-0 victory over defending champions Aduana Stars at Sogakope on Wednesday.

The Academy boys added Dormaa-based club to the list of 46 games without defeat at the Red Bull Arena on matchday three of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League.

Yahaya Mohammed came close to getting the opener for the visitors in the 19th minute but is bicycle kick inside the penalty area went wide.

On the half-hour mark, Emmanuel Boateng squandered a glorious opportunity as he shot feebly into the hands of Ayi from the area. Zakaria Mumuni, a former WAFA trainee, made a surging run on the left flank before cutting in to locate Bright Adjei who extended the pass to Boateng.

In the 41st minute, WAFA started coming back into the match and Fofana Ibrahim dropped his shoulders to connect from inside the penalty arc. But that was too feeble and lacked direction to beat goalkeeper Joseph Addo.

Aduana were compact in their approach and managed to keep WAFA at bay for the first half regulation time but were undone just in the stoppage when lanky centre-back Musah Nuhu met the ball with a header from a corner kick.

After the halftime break, WAFA SC improved upon their performance. Their key men were back into the mix and started causing troubles.

It was one of those moves which saw promising forward Aminu Mohammed being fouled. He dusted himself and fired in free-kick which deflected off Aduana’s wall and straight into the net for his third goal of the season. The teenager, who has now scored in every game, was named NASCO man-of-the-match.
