2017/18 GHPL: ‘GFA to introduce sole judge system’

GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi says his outfit intends to finally implement the concept of the single judge for swift adjudication of cases during the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League.

Proposals to have this system became prominent back in 2012 and got the approval of Congress in August the following year.

But its enforcement in replacing the Disciplinary Committee system, which has been fraught with several challenges leading to delays in the start of the league, never saw the light of day.

“We will be looking at our judicial system. It’s been a bane of the years – more particularly the last 3-4 years.

“We want to introduce the concept of the sole judge who will have the power to adjudicate over matters sitting alone unlike the current practice where we have five members of the Disciplinary Committee sitting. Sometimes for reasons associated with a lack of quorum, they are not able to sit and then it takes time for decisions to be delivered. So we want an expeditious delivery of rulings and judgements of our committees.

“We also want to reduce the number of days for litigating so matters can be dealt with expeditiously as possible,” the GFA President said while outlining some innovations for the new season during an interaction with the media on Monday.

The 2017/18 Ghana Premier League kicked off over the weekend after weeks of delay due to a court case by an aggrieved Great Olympics who had some misgivings with the GFA judicial bodies.
