Wafu Women’s Cup: Black Queens XI for must-win test vs Burkina

Ghana must defeat surprise leaders Burkina Faso in their final group game – any other result spells their exit from the ongoing Wafu B Women’s Cup of Nations.

The Black Queens, sitting third in Group A, face the Burkinabes at Parc des Sport de Treichville at 4:30pm on Sunday.

Ghana’s opening day defeat to hosts Côte d’Ivoire is back haunting despite a convincing 9-0 victory over Niger.

Burkina Faso only need to avoid defeat to the Black Queens to qualify for the semifinals as they are well-cushioned by their 5-1 win over Niger and the 1-1 draw against the Ivorians in their second game. They tie on same points, 4, with Côte d’Ivoire.

In bid to ensure victory this afternoon, Ghana coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo has named her team with just a change from the starting lineup which steamrolled Niger 9-0 on Friday.

After coming off the bench to score two goals against the Nigeriens, Jane Ayieyam has been rewarded with a starting berth while Ruth Appiah drops to the bench.
