Ghana FA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi is yet to officially communicate whether to run for re-election in 2019, says his vice George Afriyie.
Nyantakyi, who now holds several positions at the Caf level including being the 1st vice president to Ahmad Ahmad, has publicly stated he will pave way for a new leader for the country’s football when his current term runs out in 2019.
Despite this open secret which has been reiterated by the Ghana FA boss in multiple media interviews, members of the football house are yet to be informed.
“I have not heard that he will not contest for the 2019 GFA elections and I am aware that he has also not informed those working with him that he is not going to contest for the elections,” Nyantakyi’s second in command, George Afriyie told Happy FM Wednesday.
“He did not get that position by himself. A group of people helped him out so if he has decided not to contest again, he needs to inform those people,” he added.
Afriyie also stated that Kwesi Nyantakyi will successfully win a fourth term should he make himself available for re-election.
“…if he decides to contest, it is possible he can go unopposed.”
Quizzed if he is interested in succeeding Nyantakyi as the FA president, George said: “I have not made up my mind to contest for the GFA presidency elections and I have not said it anywhere that I am interested in the FA presidency.”
“If I decide to contest, I will first access myself to see if I can do the work but at the moment I am not interested in the GFA presidency,” he added.
Kwesi Nyantakyi was first elected as Ghana FA president in 2005.
