Ghalca G8: Dreams FC beat Hearts to win first title

Dreams FC came from behind to defeat Hearts of Oak 2-1 and clinch their first-ever Ghalca G8 Tournament title at Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday.

Hearts took the lead in the entertaining grand finale as former Liberty midfielder Daniel Kordie hit a 40-yard screamer past goalkeeper Isaac Amoako on 11 minutes.

The Still Believe Boys hit back seven minutes later. New boy Abdul Razak Comwell started and capped a brilliant team move involving Eric Gawu who laid the ball back to the left-back to round centre-back Richard Akrofi before slotting it past goalkeeper Benjamin Mensah.

Dreams were onto some brilliant display after their leveler through to the end of the first half which ended 1-1.

Just after the hour mark, Eric Gawu won the Premier League returnees a penalty. An on-rushing Ben Mensah hacked down Eric Gawu who was through on goal. Skipper Leonard Owusu subsequently put Dreams FC ahead with a confident penalty effort which sealed the win.

Hearts finished the Ghalca G8 final with 10 men as captain Inusah Musah got marched off by referee Issaka Afful for a second bookable offence after bringing down Asamoah. The centre-back had escaped an earlier red card for an elbow offence.

Leonard Owusu, the Dreams FC captain, was named man-of-the-match in the final and as well the Most Valuable Player of the eight-team competition.

Dreams FC kicked off their 2018 Ghalca G8 campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Aduana, got their acts together to beat Asante Kotoko and Techiman Eleven Wonders to advance to the semifinals from Group A. They then secured a 6-5 penalty shoot-outs win over Medeama SC before emerging champions of the off-season competition after beating Hearts 2-1 on Sunday.
