Black Queens to participate in Wafu Women’s Championship

The West African Football Union (Wafu) is set to chalk another first with the introduction of a Women’s Championship set for February next year.

Cote D’Ivoire has been chosen as hosts of the tournament for eight countries.

Countries chosen to battle for honours alongside the Ivorians include Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Niger, Burkina Faso, Senegal and Benin Republic.

Ghana’s senior women’s team, the Black Queens will use the competition as part of their preparations to host and win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations which comes off later in the year.

The draw for the regional showpiece has been scheduled for Ivorian capital Abidjan on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

The eight teams will be drawn in two groups with the hosts seeded in Group A and Africa’s number 1 ranked country Nigeria seeded in Group B.

The maiden Wafu Women’s Championship has also been fixed for February 10-24.
