U-20 WWCQ: Princesses rout Kenya to set up Cameroon date

Ghana will battle it out with Cameroon for one of two preserved slots for Africa at the 2018 Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Black Princesses finished their penultimate round tie with Kenya with a 5-1 second leg victory at the Kenyatta Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday.

Having scored same number of goals in the first leg, Ghana advance 10-1 on aggregate.

Olivia Anokye scored first, Princella Adubea followed up with a hat-trick while Ernestina Abambila completed Ghana’s 5 goals which sealed the emphatic victory.

Kenya’s task of a comeback was made more difficult than it already was as Olivia Anokye and Princella Adubea struck for the visitors in the opening ten minutes.

Adubea claimed her brace at the stroke of halftime by slotting past Starlets goalkeeper Lilian Awuor who had come out of her line.

Adubea was the master assassin for the visitors, who donned their trademark white jerseys, commanding proceedings for the better part of the game.

Basigi was forced to make an early change after Anokye was stretchered off the pitch with an injury. Ernestina Abambila replaced her and grabbed the team’s fourth goal in the 75th minute with a shot from the centre of the pitch before Adubea completed her hat-trick.

With two minutes to time, Muema reduced the deficit from close range.

The Black Princesses, who are in search for a sixth successive World Cup ticket will now face Cameroon in the final lap of the qualifiers to France 2018.

The first leg will be played in Yaounde on the weekend of January 12-14, 2018 while Ghana host the reverse on the weekend of January 26-28.

Two countries would represent Africa at the tournament scheduled for August 7-26 2018 in France.
