U-20 Women’s WCQ: Ghana punished Kenya for “silly mistakes” – Otieno

Kenya U-20 women’s technical team lead, Musa Otieno admits the Junior Starlets paid the full price for “silly mistakes at the back” against Ghana on Sunday.

The East Africans went down 5-0 to the Black Princesses in the first leg of their 2018 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying penultimate round tie at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Helena Obeng scored first in the 8th minute before Princella Adubea dominated the visitors with four more goals (35′, 44′, 59′, 76′) to hand Ghana a healthy lead ahead of the second leg at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on November 18.

“Football is about the mistakes you make and being punished [sic].

“It is a level that we made silly mistakes at the back and we were punished,” Otieno remarked after the match.

He added: “It is a matter of the defending. I think we didn’t defend very well. If you don’t defend well, you get punished.”

The second leg “is going to be a different ball game. At least for now, we know their strength and they know ours,” said the 43-year-old ex-Kenya international.

The winner of this tie meets Cameroon in the final stage of the qualifiers to the U-20 Fifa World Cup, France 2018.
