Coach Kwasi Appiah knew his Ghana side was always coming back despite conceding first in Sunday’s 1-1 stalemate at home to Egypt.
The Black Stars could not record a win at home as they completed the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying campaign against the Russia-bound Pharaohs at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, Egypt’s forgotten winger Mahmoud Shikabala opened the scoring with a superb strike on his return to Hector Cuper’s side after a three-year absence.
It was his first competitive goal with Egypt following a neat move he started as they ended their campaign on top of Group E with 13 points.
Norway-based winger Edwin Gyasi however struck for the much-changed Ghana side in the 63rd minute, canceling out Shikabala’s opener three minutes earlier.
“We were confident that we would get a positive result as the match is played at home but at the same time we were aware that the game would not be easy.
“I was confident that we would score the equalizer. The fans were a source of some stress but we finally managed to score,” coach Kwasi Appiah told beIN Sports after the match.
Egypt are returning to the World Cup finals for the first time in 28 years. They will know their group opponents when the draw is held on December 1.
