Kotoko grab extra-time winner to reach FA Cup final with Hearts

Asante Kotoko will face arch rivals Hearts of Oak in the final of the 2017 MTN FA Cup after beating Medeama 1-0 in extra time.

The second semifinal clash was rescheduled for Monday after torrential rain disrupted play at the Len Clay Stadium the previous day.

The two sides failed to replicate the delectable display fans were enjoying before the rain set in on Sunday. Characterized by much of a scrappy play and poor decision making in front of goal, it was the Porcupine Warriors who came out victors.

Star striker Sadick Adams, who came off the bench in the second half, settled the contentious semifinal eight minutes into the extra period after Medeama failed to deal with an Eric Donkor free-kick.

The Mauves contested referee Awal Mohammed’s decision to allow the goal claiming Adams impeded his marker before forcing the ball into the back of the net.

Kotoko showed great resilience to keep their slender lead till the final whistle – Medeama could have pushed the game into a penalty shootout but one of their efforts in a goalmouth melee was denied by the woodwork.

Kotoko, who have now reached the FA Cup final 15 times, will meet record winners (10 in total) Hearts of Oak in an October 29 grand finale at the Tamale Stadium. They will be seeking their ninth FA Cup title.
