Late penalty hands Kotoko controversial FA Cup win over Nea Salamina

Asante Kotoko benefited from a last-minute controversial penalty to win 2-1 against Division One side Nea Salamina in their outstanding MTN FA Cup quarterfinals match on Wednesday.

Striker Sadick Adams shot the Porcupines Warriors in front in the 12th minute. However, Obeng K. Junior restored parity for the lower tier side nine minutes before recess.

The game was balanced in the second half as Salamina continued to prove a hard nut to crack for the home side.

With the game heading for spot kicks inside 4 minutes additional time, referee Yakubu Nuhu Liman controversially awarded Kotoko a penalty after midfielder Seth Opare threw himself to the ground in the 18-yard box.

Skipper Amos Frimpong was on hand to convert and send the Kotoko into the last four of the competition.

Kotoko joins three other Premier League clubs – Wa All Stars, Medeama SC and Hearts of Oak for the semifinals pairings on August 22.

The semi-finals matches will be played on September 30 and October 1, with the finals slated for 29th October. All semi-finals and the final match will be live on television.
