GHPL: WAFA outclass Kotoko to regain top spot

WAFA SC climbed back atop the Ghana Premier League table after posting a 2-0 win over Asante Kotoko in a matchday 24 outstanding fixture.

The match which had been rescheduled due to Asante Kotoko’s involvement in a road accident in July finally came off at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope on Wednesday.

The Academy boys, despite their dominance from start, had to labour till the second half to record both goals.

Prince Ampem netted the opener in the 57th minute from scrappy play. It followed captain Gideon Waja’s free-kick had come off the post. Ampem initially hit the ball on a rebound which was blocked by Felix Annan but it fell at the feet of the youngster again – his follow-up effort this time bounced off the Kotoko goalkeeper and into the net.

In the 67th minute, WAFA broke away on a counter with Daniel Lomotey racing with the ball, took on Kotoko defender before slotting it past goalkeeper Felix Annan.

On 46 points, WAFA have now opened a two-point lead over Aduana Stars. They travel to face relegation-threatened Tema Youth in a matchday 25 fixture on Sunday.
