2018 World Cup: Qualification out of Ghana’s hands – Oti Akenteng

The Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association, Francis Oti Akenteng admits it looks improbable Ghana will qualify for the next World Cup.

The veteran Ghana Coach opines it will be a herculean task for Ghana to usurp the Pharaos to make it to a fourth successive World Cup after leaving themselves five points away from the summit Group E’s table.

Speaking to Boss FM in Kumasi, Coach Oti revealed the chances of the team is very slim but confident the Black Stars will win all matches and hope for the Egyptians to slip.

“It’s not an easy task to qualify ahead of Egypt,” he said.

“If we (Ghana) were leading Egypt by five points, we wouldn’t allow them to qualify ahead of us, so they won’t allow us to qualify too.

“Despite how difficult it’ll be, we will still try our best to qualify for the World Cup.

“We should be hopeful that we win our remaining matches,” Coach Oti Akenteng added.

The Black Stars sit third on Group E’s ladder after losing to Egypt and drawing to Uganda in the first two games. The Stars hope to return to winning ways as they play Congo twice later this year.

Ghana FA is however in the hunt for a new coach for the Black Stars with Kwesi Appiah as the likely choice after Coach Avram Grant’s contract ended in February.
