Settle debts of all female teams – Mahama orders Finance Ministry

Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuije has revealed that outgoing President John Mahama has ordered the Ministry of Finance to settle all monies owed the national female football teams by the time he officially leaves office midnight January 6, 2017.

According to the Sports Minister, the directive was given by President Mahama during a cabinet meeting on Thursday December 15.

Three female national teams – the Black Maidens, Princesses and their seniors, the Black Queens are owed several thousands of dollars after participating in international tournaments this year.

It is my prayer that we settled all debts owed the Black Queens, Princesses and Maidens. In fact, at Cabinet last Thursday, I raised the issue and President Mahama asked the Finance Ministry to do all it can to have the monies paid before 7th January,” Nii Lante said in an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.

“We are waiting for the schedule officer today and I’ve stationed my [Sports Ministry] accountant at the Ministry of Finance…” he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Queens have threatened a massive demonstration against the Sports Ministry if monies due them are not paid by close of day. They have schedule to march to the Ministry on Wednesday, December 21.
