The Ghana Football Association have been invited by the Chief Director of the new Sports Ministry for discussions on the budget for the Africa Nations Cup.
The GFA has acknowledged receipt of a letter on Tuesday inviting them to hold a meeting with the new Sports Ministry Chief Director, Frank Quist. The motive of the invitation is to discuss plans and budget of the GFA for the Black Stars for the 2017 Africa Nations Cup in Gabon.
Funding has been a problem for the Black Stars and the other national soccer teams both male and female recently. This is due to the rift generated between outgoing Sports Minister Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye and the Ghana FA. The invitation comes as good news for the GFA as they have the opportunity to plan and budget for the Black Stars ahead of the competition in Gabon.
“I can say we have received a letter from the new Chief Director of the Sports Ministry who was present at Monday’s congress. He has asked us to present to him the FA’s budget for the AFCON 2017. We will honour the invitation and hold a discussion with him and help how the budget can be prepared,” George Afriyie told Adehye3 FM in Kumasi.
The Black Stars are expected to begin preparations with non-residential camping from the 27th of December, have a break on the 30th December to celebrate the last day of 2016 and the first day of the New Year.
The team will then assemble on 2nd January 2017 and depart for their residential camping. The Black Stars who are four-time champion seek a fifth continental glory after finishing second in the last edition losing to Cote D’Ivoire on penalties in 2015.
